A young boy, CJ, wonders why he’s different from others he sees. Others have cars and iPods, while he travels by bus around the city with Nana, his grandmother. Nana opens his eyes to the beauty and wonder around them. Last Stop on Market Street is a beautiful depiction of the diversity that makes up a city, and a representation of one young African-American boy’s experience. The story is uplifting and emotional, with captivating illustrations which won a Caldecott Award, and also claims a Newbery Medal and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator award.
